So why should you trust my book reviews?

I am a high-school student and an avid reader. I’ve read tons of books throughout my last 17 years of life on earth!

After so much reading, I thought why not write about it?

So being a tech-geek, I quickly learned the nuts and bolts of website development and blogging, then launched this site – ArghyaDas.com (in January 2022) – as my personal blog to document my journey and share my experiences.

And it’s been growing ever since I started writing!

First things first – reading is a process of learning, not an event. There are a few reading essentials that you need before you get started and you can read my guide on developing a reading habit for a smooth start.

Please note: This site is reader-supported, and may receive affiliate commissions from Amazon LLC if you make purchases through links available on this site. However, these commissions are absolutely at no extra cost to you and my goal is to give you the very best review and recommendations for choosing the best books of all time.

Ready? Let’s get to the list.

What are the top 10 books now?

Here are my top 10 picks to read right now:

1. Remarkably Bright Creatures: A Novel.

The book Remarkably Bright Creatures: A Novel is a story of loneliness, connection, and love. It’s about the power of a pair of eyes to make all the difference in how you see yourself.

It’s effortless to think of loneliness as a funny word or an odd concept in our society. However, Remarkably Bright Creatures shows us how vulnerable creatures can suffer from it. It is a powerful novel that shows how one small friendship can transform a lonely individual.

If you haven’t read this novel yet, I highly recommend it as my #1 novel or the #1 book on this list. This novel is worth a 5-star in its review.

While reading, I found myself completely entranced by its compelling characters. The author brilliantly weaves humor and empathy together into the story exploring how loneliness can be transformed, cracked open, with the slightest touch from another living thing.

Spoiler Alert: This is the interlayered tale of lost souls who find solace and peace through each other’s actions. Tova Sullivan, a widow working nights cleaning an aquarium by moonlight, chats with the animals in their exhibits as she mops dry. She’s lonely and bored, just like the octopus in the large tank.

Her grocer admires her from afar and her friends love her deeply, but all these things only make her seem aimless as she grapples with a life-changing tragedy. Her admirer takes in a lonely young man looking for answers who have a lot of growing up to do. All these characters form this lyrical story of love, loss & the meaning/value of family.

2. What My Bones Know: A Memoir of Healing From CT.

In this raw, unflinching memoir, award-winning journalist Stephanie Foo explores how she learned to walk through the darkness of complex trauma and emerge into the light of a new life.

A searing, deeply personal exploration of the science behind complex PTSD and how it has shaped her life. Stephanie Foo’s memoir is a journey into the depths of trauma, and then back out again.

It’s about learning to walk through the dark world of mental illness, physical injury, and loss without becoming broken by it. It’s also a celebration of resilience: how we can learn to transform our darkest experiences into something meaningful and beautiful.

Spoiler Alert: Ultimately, after lots of research and interviews with scientists and psychologists, she returns to her hometown (from where she was abandoned by her parents when she was a teenager) of San Jose, California, and uncovers mysterious family secrets that led her to inherit trauma from her family generations.

The ultimate message she sent to us through this book is that – you don’t move on from trauma, but you can learn to move with it.

3. All My Rage: A Novel.

As reviewed & stated by, new york times:

All my rage is a love story, a tragedy, and an infectious teenage fever dream about what home means when you feel you don’t fit in.

It is a new york times best-seller & a must-read!

You will be hard-pressed to find a book that is more impactful than this. The prose is beautiful and well crafted, the characters are sympathetic and relatable and the events aren’t sugar-coated. The story moves at a fast pace, revealing things that must be read closely to understand what they mean. There are revelations at every turn of the page and my heart was never safe as I turned each one.

It’s a gripping story of family dynamics and the personal conflicts that arise over a lifetime. This story deals with abuse and betrayal, friendship, love of a kind, and even finding yourself through life experiences.

It’s rare to read a fictional book where the setting and characters feel so genuine, yet it is so easy to get lost. The stories of Misbah and Sal (and Noor) are heartwarming, as well as heartbreaking. It made me think about my own parent’s relationship, and how some parents might be closer to their children than others even if they aren’t together.

This is a book that hooks you from the beginning and reminds you that people are generally good while we are also capable of doing some really ugly things to each other.

4. The Maid: A Novel.

As perfectly written in the amazon descriptions:

“A Clue-like, locked-room mystery and a heartwarming journey of the spirit, The Maid explores what it means to be the same as everyone else and yet entirely different — and reveals that all mysteries can be solved through connection to the human heart.”

The book you’re about to purchase is a riveting tale of murder, crime, and complicated family relationships. But it’s so much more than that. This book is about connection — to those around us but also ourselves, the heart beneath our skin.

From the moment I opened this book, I knew it was going to be an excellent one. Molly Gray is an eccentric character and the author has done such an amazing job in developing her personality. The plot is interesting and flows well — I never felt like I was stuck waiting for something to happen.

The story revolves around a mystery and what seems to be a serial killer. This is certainly not your typical story, but it works for me — because it kept me guessing about who was behind all of the murders! I would recommend this book to teen girls and avid mystery readers everywhere.

Spoiler Alert: It’s Mrs. Black 🙂

5. River of the Gods: Genius, Courage & Betrayal.

For thousands of years, the location of the Nile River’s source has been a hotly contested subject. Until Richard Burton and John Hanning Speke came along, those named as possible candidates – from Egypt’s equatorial deserts to its arid northern shores – had never been thoroughly measured or investigated.

After weeks of exploring unknown terrain and far toiling in temperatures sometimes above 120 degrees Fahrenheit, each man claimed to have found his alleged source. The story of their journey would later become part of 19th-century literature: an epic adventure about explorers risking everything for fame and glory.

This book is a tour de force.

The author has done a brilliant job of researching and writing about such a large and diverse topic without losing the flow of the storyline which is so important when you have a book this long.

In addition to covering Burton’s expeditions, the book delves into everything that goes on during that timeline including political and social movements. This makes it not just fascinating but also quite informative if you’re interested in history in general.

This book is the literary legacy of Richard Burton and his expeditions to discover the source of the Nile River. A truly cinematic experience, when reading this book you can’t help but feel as if you are standing alongside Richard Burton during his expeditions into the unknown, heading through the jungle on a dirt bike (or as it was known at that time steamboat, actually – a paddle boat).

Should I Spoil the Story More? Hahaha :))

6. Lessons in Chemistry: A Novel.

We’re all familiar with the classic formula: you don’t know what you don’t know. But things are changing in this age of knowledge saturation and superficial consumerism.

How do you know if today’s new authors (like Bonnie Garmus) have something original to offer? It’s easy! Just look at the author’s credentials, education, or hair. And by that, I mean read their other books.

Lessons in Chemistry is a novel that pulls no punches. Its wit and sharpness should charm you, and it celebrates individuality, the ability to question, and the power of personal experience in a changing world.

Despite the differences, this novel’s characters are united by their determination to succeed in the face of failure, the complexities of human relationships, and a passionate desire to know more.

Spoiler Alert: It is announced that Apple Tv+ will release Lessons in Chemistry as a series in 2023 through aggregate films & apple studios starring Brie Larson as the lead character of the plot – Elizabeth Zott.

7. Memphis: A Novel.

Memphis is a novel about inheritance. It focuses on how lives are written by those who have lived before but also lived alongside our own. It asks, how do we honor the past while living in the present moment?

How can we forge a new sense of family as we move forward?

It is truly a knockout! Spanning three generations of unforgettable Black women, it is the story of their hopes and dreams, their love affairs, the good and bad men in their lives, and how hope and joy can be passed from one generation to the next.

Three generations have lived side by side and all of them play an intricate role in this novel–whether they are mother, daughter, or grandmother. There are loud voices and whispers of laughter; there is deadly violence written into each character’s past.

The author – Tara M. Stringfellow – will convince you that she has created one of those rare books that can be read over and over again — one that makes you feel as though you live inside it yourself.

8. Sea of Tranquility: A Novel.

Sea of Tranquility is a novel of time travel and metaphysics that precisely captures the reality of our current moment.

It is both an ambitious literary undertaking and a compelling insight into the nature of love within the context of family and religion. Its landscapes are deep, its characters are bold, and its language is sensual with life.

Though set in our age, it is timeless and resonates as deeply with readers today as it has always done. When I first read this book, I was hooked. What drew me in was the setting, and the second moon colony is such a very unique location in its way.

The western villages, forests, and seas are brilliant, giving an ancient spice to an otherwise futuristic scene. This is not just a novel about politics, but about leading and following – what it means to be an individual in society and how all of it is affected when you think for yourself.

This is an exciting, imaginative novel about some person who finds himself thrown into another time, another place. He learns about love, loss, and happiness as he navigates nature and society—most notably the Starks who created the artificial world of Tranquility.

9. Half-Blown Rose: A Novel.

I don’t think I can write a review on this book without giving spoilers. This is, after all, primarily an emotional journey and the reader knows what’s going on in Vincent’s head while they’re reading the book.

This novel is a page-turner! It takes several twists and turns along with a well-written story that draws you in. The characters were relatable throughout the book. Their emotions played into the story which helped me experience what they were feeling then.

The characters, story, and language invite you along on an immersive, emotional, sensual journey. This is a novel that will stay with you long after you’ve finished reading! The plot of the story was a bit uneventful, yet the characters moved the story.

Can Vincent be considered the main villain?

I can’t decide if Vincent can be considered the main villain or not— but she was surprisingly fascinating! And, Loup. Though he seemed like an awkward, socially inept character at first, I later realized that he was quite intelligent and capable of learning from his mistakes.

10. Hello, Molly!: A Memoir.

Hello, Molly! is a hilarious, heartfelt, and heartfelt memoir from comedic icon Molly Shannon. Immediately captivating and completely original, with a candid, compulsively readable tone. Our beloved Molly Shannon takes us on an unforgettable journey through the ups and downs of her life in show business.

In this heart-wrenching and often darkly comic memoir, Molly Shannon reveals the everyday magic and comedy that helped her to survive the tragedy. Her account is alternately hilarious, poignant, and terrifying because she has lived to talk about it.

Her relationship with her father became a vital resource for Molly, who later described him as “the closest thing to a second mother [she] could imagine.” The bond between these two characters is beautifully captured in this memoir by actress Molly Shannon (Saturday Night Live).

Molly Shannon’s comedy career began in New York, where she created her opportunities and developed a daring and empathetic style.

Filled with behind-the-scenes stories on everyone from Whitney Houston to Adam Sandler to Monica Lewinsky, Hello, Molly! spans her time on Saturday Night Live—where she starred alongside Will Ferrell, Adam Sandler, Cheri Oteri, Tracy Morgan, and Jimmy Fallon— as well as her struggle to come to terms with the legacy of her father.

The book is entertaining and very interesting. Knowing someone who has gone through similar circumstances puts some things in perspective, like her feelings of abandonment and the predictable issues that stem from a single-parent household.

The tone is not preachy, but it is persuasive. It is persuasive to encourage people to be aware of their actions and how these actions can affect others. The premise that an individual’s actions speak volumes about their character is an overused one, but I think it applies to Molly.

The most exemplary thing about her memoir is the message that nothing good comes from feeling sorry for yourself; it’s an interesting lesson she learned at a very young age only she took the time later in life to articulate for others.
